TV’s 8 Most Toxic Show-Killers

Alex O’Loughlin seemingly has it all. He’s handsome, talented and he’s starring in CBS’ highly anticipated fall reboot of “Hawaii Five-O”

Yet O’Loughlin bears a dubious nickname — that of show-killer.

Among the shows that he’s headlined are vampire drama “Moonlight” and the medical show “Three Rivers,” both of which debuted with high expectations but were pulled due to low viewership.

Which begs the question, why will the third time be the charm?

“Shows make actors, actors don’t make shows,”Steve Sternberg, longtime television research analyst at media buying agency Magna, told TheWrap. “‘Moonlight’ failing was not his fault. It was a well done show, but the premise [about vampires] was too narrow to draw the broad audience necessary to keep it on broadcast television. ‘Three Rivers’ was just not that good a show. But he’s a likable actor, and ‘Hawaii Five-O’ will have broader audience appeal. [SOURCE]

I’m glad Steve spoke up. Show-killer. Hayley should have done some research, yes? It seems that vampires do not have a “too narrow” premise, since everywhere you look now we have vampires: two TV shows alone on primetime, and another one coming in the Fall. Moonlight was just ahead of its time. Three Rivers…well…okay, the premise on THAT show was too narrow…transplants every week…but there was room to expand on the human drama, and those episodes we’re just getting to see now.

Hawaii Five-O is gonna do it for Alex. The network execs are crazy about it. The trailer is stellar. Third time is going to be the charm for this “likable” actor.
