Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the upcoming release of THE BACK-UP PLAN. It will be available August 24th and the Blu-ray & DVD versions contain never-before-seen deleted scenes and exclusive bonus features including an all-new “Belly Laughs: Making The Back-up Plan” featurette.

Synopsis:
Jennifer Lopez stars as Zoe, a single New Yorker who dreams about meeting Mr. Right, having a baby and living happily ever after. Yet O’Loughlin bears a dubious nickname — that of show-killer.

Among the shows that he’s headlined are vampire drama “Moonlight” and the medical show “Three Rivers,” both of which debuted with high expectations but were pulled due to low viewership.

Which begs the question, why will the third time be the charm?

“Shows make actors, actors don’t make shows,”Steve Sternberg, longtime television research analyst at media buying agency Magna, told TheWrap. “‘Moonlight’ failing was not his fault. It was a well done show, but the premise [about vampires] was too narrow to draw the broad audience necessary to keep it on broadcast television. ‘Three Rivers’ was just not that good a show. The two-day program is sponsored by Donate Life Hollywood, a campaign created in 2007 after research demonstrated the impact of organ donation storylines on public perceptions of donation, stopping many Americans from signing up to be donors.

The Festival opens Friday June 11 at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills with a VIP cocktail party hosted by Ann Lopez, wife of and living kidney donor to comedian and actor George Lopez. The invite-only red carpet event will honor the Donate Life Hollywood Person of the Year. Nominees for the 2010 award are: the Grammy Award winning R&B group All 4 One; the media mogul and CEO of CBS, Les Moonves; the rising star and hottest transplant surgeon on television, Alex O’Loughlin; the only person to ever have won an Olympic medal with a transplant, Chris Klug; and the smooth-voiced lead-singer of The Calling, Alex Band. The “Moonlight” star has closed a deal to topline CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0″ remake.

He will play the role of the head of the Hawaii State Police portrayed by Jack Lord in the original series.

O’Loughlin, who was an early favorite for the part, joins recently cast “Lost” co-star Daniel Dae Kim, who will play Detective Chin Ho Kelly.

The new “Hawaii Five-0″ hails from hot feature writers and “Fringe” co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and “CSI: NY” executive producer/co-showrunner Peter Lenkov. CBS Studios is producing.

“Hawaii Five-0″ marks O’Loughlin’s third starring vehicle at CBS, following “Moonlight” and this season’s medical drama “Three Rivers.”

CBS brass certainly hope that the third time will be the charm for O’Loughlin the way it was for another network favorite, Simon Baker, who starred in CBS’ short-lived drama series “The Guardian” and “Smith” before headlining hit “The Mentalist.”

Will the third time be the charm for CBS and Alex O’Loughlin?

Undeterred by the back-to-back failures of Moonlight and Three Rivers, The Eye net is courting O’Loughlin to headline the freshly-greenlit remake of Hawaii Five-O, sources confirm.

“Talks are ongoing,” says the insider. “CBS really wants to do another series with him.”

The original Five-O — which starred Jack Lord as Det. Steve McGarrett — ran on CBS from 1968-1980. The update is being shepherded by Fringe writer-producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, as well as CSI: NY e.p. Peter Lenkov.

At press tour last week, CBS president Nina Tassler reiterated her strong desire to stay in business with O’Loughlin. “We love him,” she said, “and want him to stay around a long time.”

Confirming what we knew last month, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said Pittsburgh-set medical drama “Three Rivers” is good and truly dead.

“We’ve all known each other long enough to say that when something is ‘on hiatus’ it’s code for something else,” said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler, confirming the show’s cancellation.

As far as what went wrong, she acknowledged that it took the show too long to find its legs.

“Maybe we didn’t give enough character early on, maybe that was too late,” she said. “I also think Sunday night is a rough time to launch a new show. We have to assume some responsibility as far as programming it on Sunday night. I think it’s worth having another conversation about strategy on Sunday nights, which we certainly will.”
