HAWAII FIVE-0 kicked off production in Honolulu today with a traditional Hawaiian blessing in honor of its host culture. Series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, as well as the producers and the entire HAWAII FIVE-0 crew, participated. Kahu Kelekona Bishaw from Kamehameha Schools officiated over the ceremony, which included traditional royal maile leis, a Pule Wehe (opening prayer) and Pule Ho’oku’u (closing prayer) calling upon the elements and inviting goodness, protection, peace, happiness and success. Joining in the celebration was Police Chief Louis M. Kealoha.
Bravo has acquired the UK rights to the upcoming remake of Hawaii Five-O.
According to The Guardian, the channel bought the exclusive pay-TV, Freeview and digital rights.
The show, which was picked up by CBS in the US, focuses on police officers working in Hawaii. The cast includes Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park.
Virgin Media TV’s head of acquisitions Amy Barham said: “Hawaii Five-O was the standout show at this year’s LA screenings and securing it exclusively for UK audiences demonstrates yet again Bravo’s commitment to owning the very best in primetime US dramas.”
The series is expected to premiere in the US and the UK in the autumn. [SOURCE]
Hawaii Five-O Most Anticipated New TV Show of the Fall
What can fans expect from the new Five-O?
It’s a modern reboot of a classic, an old favorite that was CBS’ number one show for 12 years. It was a huge show. What we are doing is bringing a whole new spin to it. I play Steve McGarrett, which is Jack Lord’s character, and you will learn all about Steve’s background as opposed to in the old show, you didn’t really know much about him. We open up the pilot learning all about these characters, where they come from, how they come together and it’s about fighting crime in Hawaii.
Are you a fan of Lost and how great is it to be working with Daniel Dae Kim?
Yeah. Fantastic and yeah, he’s a great guy. He’s super nice. I’m very, very glad he’s on the cast. He’s a pro. He’s a terrific actor, but he’s a really great person as well. So it’s going to be fun.
Will you be doing any of your own stunts?
I’m very physical and I really enjoy that side of things and stuff. I’ll do whatever they let me!
You and Scott Caan, who plays your partner, have some strong chemistry in the pilot. Is he the comedic relief to your straight man?
There’s more to my character McGarrett than you saw in the pilot so he’s not as straight as you think. I mean he’s as straight as a [Navy] SEAL, but he’s got a bunch of stuff that’s gonna come out later on and we riff pretty well together. It’s fun. Naturally, in life, I’m more of a clown, it’s different.
Will you and Scott be the next great TV bromance?
Me and Scott, oh yeah, we will be the bromance of the decade!
“Hawaii Five-0″ is getting a primetime makeover and ET has a sneak peek at what the ’60s fan favorite looks like in the 21st century!
“Moonlight” star Alex O’Loughlin is the new Steve McGarrett, originally played by Jack Lord, and Scott Caan is detective Danny “Danno” Williams.
“This is kind of an aggressive contemporary continuation of what we knew to be the old show,” Alex tells ET. “It has the great stuff that the old show had. It has the crimes, the characters and the drive of the show. We have more comedy than the old show. It is a little faster than it was. We have done everything we can to retain the integrity of the old show.”
The integrity of the old show isn’t the only thing that has been maintained. The new series still utilizes the memorable theme song with an update — and McGarrett will still famously say, “Book ‘em, Danno.” Continue reading »
