Thanks to fans’ relentless efforts to support and promote Moonlight, the supernatural series was named “Favorite New TV Drama” on Wednesday’s telecast of the 34th Annual People’s Choice Awards on the CBS Television Network.

The award was accepted by Moonlight’s lead star Alex O’Loughlin, who plays a charming private investigator who struggles with his immortality as a vampire, on behalf of the cast and crew via video from Australia. The series also stars Sophia Myles (Beth Turner), Jason Dohring (Josef Konstan), and Shannyn Sossamon (Coraline).

“I’m lost for words,” O’Loughlin said in his acceptance speech. “I’m so incredibly happy. I feel so privileged to be a part of the show in the first place and having to stop it at 12 episodes because of the writers strike has been really frustrating. But to be even considered for this award was thrilling to me because it’s not about a panel of judges, it’s about our fans and it’s about all you people that watched the show…the people voting. And to know that we had 10 million votes is just incomprehensible to me. I’m just really really thrilled and so happy to accept this award.”

People’s Choice Awards is an awards show held annually since 1975, which gives recognition to people and the work of popular culture based on the opinions of the general public. This year, fans logged over 10 million votes for Moonlight, which won against big contenders such as Private Practice, Gossip Girl, Bionic Woman, and Dirty Sexy Money, just to name a few.

Aside from expressing his gratitude and appreciation toward the show’s fans and congratulating fellow nominees for the award, O’Loughlin also answered a few questions about the show’s upcoming plot.

“What do I think will happen between Mick and Beth? Well, quite a lot has happened already and there’s a lot of water under that bridge. There’s a lot of tension there as well that we built over the last 12 episodes. The relationship can only go so far for the show to continue to be a show. But something has to give in the next few episodes after 12 but I’m not gonna say what I think is gonna happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, fans can catch the much awaited 11th episode of Moonlight called “Love Lasts Forever” tonight at 9pm ET/PT on CBS.
